Paris, My Love

How a trip with my ex helped me find true love…

Join me on this journey of love…and heartbreak.

It was a dream come true, my trip to Paris. Except the man I was traveling with was my ex. And I fell madly in love with him all over again. And with Paris. And most of all, with myself.

I could see then that Lee was getting bored. He had started taking pictures of the fancy sports cars whizzing by, the police cars and motorcycles. I motioned him to follow me and led the way to the Jardin des Tuileries…

I don’t think we could have walked slower by that point. The whole world seemed to have stopped. Our shadows stretched out so long in front of us. The gravel crunched beneath our feet.

There was a pond near the entrance and we sat down on the chairs next to it without speaking. Lee took my picture. I smiled brightly at the camera.

We watched joggers go by, one after the other after the other. I wondered, in awe, what it would be like to work out every day in the Jardin des Tuileries. Can you imagine?

Finally, we went back to our room. We stayed so close, arms around each other for quite some time. In that room, alone with each other, it was our only feeling of home. I had this awful premonition that when we returned home, everything would go back to the way it had been – Lee would say he didn’t want a committed relationship and I’d lose him again. But I pushed that out of my mind. While we are on this trip, we belong to each other, and that’s all that matters to me.
